With a cutting-edge call to Get Critical: Forging the Future of Museum Theatre, this year’s conference promises to offer a range of professional learning opportunities, from performances and plenary sessions, workshops and demonstrations to professional debates and networking occasions. Topics addressed will include: Native American perspectives and Decolonization in museum theatre; approaching difficult topics, evaluating more than visitor satisfaction, and more! Presentation of the 2019 Jon Lipsky Playwriting Award will also take place at the conference. New this year is a full day of START UP WORKSHOPS for those getting started and tours. Whether you are a veteran or newbie, you can be a part of challenging conversations that move this field forward. Evening events will make sure you don’t miss the IndyFringe Festival with 80 groups performing 400 shows!

Why Indianapolis? This mid-sized Midwestern city is a hot-bed of museums and museum theatre! It is a microcosm of all disciplines of world-class institutions – Newfields and the Indianapolis Museum of Art, the Eiteljorg Museum of Western Art, Indianapolis Zoo, Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites, the Minnetrista in Muncie, as well as the host institution, the nationally recognized and award-winning Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. Not to mention the IndyFringe Festival, which coincides with the IMTAL Conference-- 11 days of non-stop shows across Indianapolis.
