Getting Started, Getting Online
Have you been thinking about getting your museum, theater production, or company online, but don’t know where to begin? Whether you want to design it yourself or hire someone else, this hands-on workshop will help you ask the right questions and understand the answers. It will show examples of good and bad website design, and highlight effective marketing strategies. In breakout groups, you will discuss and “design” (off the computer) a mock website homepage.

Drama on the Brain
Find out how watching a piece of theatre or participating in a drama can affect how we think. There are exciting studies in memory, emotions and narrative showing a clear impact on the brain and consequently, on how people learn. This session will provide participants with an understanding of the latest research and how to capitalize on it for their museum theatre program. Connect to brainpower!
10:30 – 11:45 Single Session

Researching Museum Theatre: a Report on Recent Research in the UK
The session will focus on a 2-month long study funded by the UK’s Arts and Humanities Research board in Museum Theater, as practiced at the Imperial War Museum in London and the People’s History Museum in Manchester. This study tracked the museum experiences of eight groups of primary school children, 50% of whom encountered a theater event, while the other 50% had a more conventional experience. This study will compare and contrast the two groups in regards to their recall, understanding and “ownership” of the material presented.
11:45 – 1:00 Lunch on your own
1:00 – 2:00 FINAL SESSION
What did we just do and where are we going? A presentation, review and open forum to send us all on our jaunty way.
